Why MOMENTIVE GE SILICONE?
Seamless Air & Water Protection
GE Elemax™ 2600 Air & Water-Resistive Barrier Coating creates a seamless silicone membrane that helps control air and water movement through exterior wall assemblies. Its lasting flexibility supports long-term building-envelope performance through weather exposure, temperature changes, and normal building movement.
Fast Application & Rain-Ready Performance
GE Elemax™ 2600 is designed to simplify installation and help projects progress efficiently. The single-component coating can be applied by spray or roller and becomes rain-ready shortly after application, helping reduce weather-related delays and protect completed work sooner.
Cold-Weather Installation & Field Quality Control
The GE Elemax™ system can be applied in a broad range of temperatures, helping extend the installation season and maintain progress during colder conditions. Its visible, monolithic application also makes coverage, continuity, and required thickness easier to evaluate during field quality-control inspections.
Flashing, Openings & Transitions
GE Elemax™ 5000 Liquid Flashing creates a durable, weather-resistant seal around windows, doors, penetrations, transitions, and other critical building-envelope details. Its silicone formulation works with Elemax 2600 to support continuity across the air and water control layers.

GE Elemax™ Air & Water-Resistive Barrier coatings from Momentive are designed to simplify installation and reduce steps in the building-envelope process. The 100% silicone coating can be applied in a single coat and offers primerless adhesion to a range of common substrates, helping reduce the additional materials, labor and waiting periods associated with multi-step systems.
For architects, contractors and building-envelope consultants, this can be particularly valuable on projects with aggressive schedules or complex façade sequencing. Faster application allows subsequent construction activities to progress without unnecessarily extending the air-barrier installation schedule.
-
GE Elemax™ AWB coatings can become rain resistant in as little as 30 minutes after application, helping protect construction schedules when changing weather conditions are a concern.
This rapid rain-ready performance can be especially beneficial on large commercial projects where the building envelope may be installed over an extended period and weather windows are difficult to predict. Rather than requiring long periods of dry weather before exposure, Elemax helps contractors keep exterior-envelope work moving while providing architects with a continuous silicone-based air and water-resistive barrier designed for long-term exposure to moisture, UV and temperature extremes.
-
Yes. Momentive GE Elemax™ Air & Water-Resistive Barrier coatings can be applied at temperatures as low as 0°F (-18°C).
Cold-weather application can provide an important scheduling advantage for projects where conventional air-barrier installation may otherwise be delayed by seasonal temperatures. This is particularly relevant for projects in colder climates or construction schedules that extend through winter. By expanding the available installation window, Elemax can help contractors maintain enclosure schedules while allowing architects and building-envelope consultants to specify a high-performance air and water barrier without making warm-weather installation a major sequencing constraint.
-
GE Elemax™ can simplify field coordination because its single-coat application and primerless adhesion on many substrates reduce the number of installation steps that must be coordinated and inspected.
For complex building envelopes, fewer application stages can make it easier for contractors, architects and envelope consultants to visually review installed work and identify areas requiring attention before they become concealed by insulation, panels or other façade components. Elemax's rapid cure and rain-ready performance can also help reduce sequencing conflicts between the air-barrier installer and downstream exterior-envelope trades. The result is a more straightforward installation workflow with fewer dependencies between separate coating, primer and weather-protection operations.
-
Construction silicone is used throughout the building envelope to help manage air, water, weather exposure, movement, and glazing performance. Depending on the product and application, silicone can be used for exterior joint weathersealing, curtain wall and window wall glazing, perimeter seals around windows and doors, structural silicone glazing, insulating glass fabrication, air and water-resistive barriers, roof coatings, façade restoration, and architectural coatings.
Momentive’s GE Silicones portfolio provides solutions for both new construction and restoration. For example, Elemax™ creates a seamless silicone air and water-resistive barrier behind the exterior façade, while SilPruf™ products are used for weathersealing and UltraGlaze™ products support structural silicone glazing applications such as curtain walls, window walls and glass façades.
-
GE Elemax™ Air & Water-Resistive Barrier coatings are applied to exterior wall substrates as part of the building-envelope assembly to create a continuous air and water-resistive membrane behind cladding systems. The silicone membrane helps control air and water movement while remaining vapor permeable and resistant to long-term UV and weather exposure.
Elemax can be particularly useful behind metal panels, rainscreen façades, curtain wall transitions and other exterior cladding assemblies, including open-joint rainscreen designs where portions of the membrane may remain exposed to UV and weather. Its flexibility also makes it well suited for complex transitions and interfaces where continuity of the air barrier is critical.
